Found and Cherished

A project with The Curious Cabinet at Malvern Library

During October 2024 my exhibition will be on display at the Curious Cabinet,a platform for artists within a curious space in the entrance to Malvern Library, conceived by artist Tania Roberrtson

Sometimes we can be drawn to objects, as if they call us and we want to keep them close, in pockets, on window sills, nature on mantlepieces and snuggled next to computers.  Found and Cherished is an opportunity to explore these objects of fascination, to admire their beauty and to create stages, elevating them to objects of sculpture and art.

Snailswirl

Snail swirl, two roman snail shells, treasured since finding them as a young girl in the Cotswolds.  Set on a plinth of the smoothest drift wood, softened by the sea and found on a Pembroke Beach in 2004

Conkerstory2.JPG

Conkers, freshly fallen and wrapped in a manuscript box formed of vintage music paper.

Seeds and feather.JPG

Seeds of honesty and poppy heads, share colours and tones with a treasured tawny owl feather.

Found and Cherished

Driftwood, salvaged and travelled, worn and preserved, weathered and warmed in the sun.  A slate, smooth and with a natural hole combine, slotting perfectly together, becoming single story.

Dried ivy, its leaves brittle and darkened with age, reveals its beauty, against a backdrop of a cyanotype print.
